Best Classical-Concert Programmer- Edward Polochick

Baltimore City Paper, September 19 - 25, 2001
Best of Baltimore 2001 Issue

We've heard countless cries about the monotony of the classical symphony experience. How many times-- and in how many seasons-- must a listener hear those three Brahms violin concertos, the same Mozart symphonies, the same Stravinsky ballets? With the refreshingly intrepid Edward Polochick, it's quite possible we may never end up hearing the same work twice. He's a virtuoso pianist, a solid symphonic conductor, and an expert in choral music, and his versatility is reflected in every program he constructs, whether as artistic director of his Concert Artists of Baltimore or with the chorus and orchestra at Peabody Conservatory, where he is an associate conductor. In the last couple of seasons, he has presented such motley works as Gian Carlo Menotti's Violin Concerto and masses by Bruckner and Schubert. The coming season promises similarly offbeat yet worthy fare from this talented and committed musician.
